About This Course

A fun exercise that harnesses 5 of the most important watercolour techniques, including: wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, salt, lifting, glazing, and stamping. Mastering these techniques will boost your future watercolour creations and encourage you to experiment and play with this exciting medium. This type of artistic play will help you discover your own unique creative voice and what resonates best with your own artistic process.

  • Caroline will demonstrate several traditional watercolour techniques for you to try out during the course.

    There will be several exercises to get you familiar with the course materials and how to use them, including colour mixing and combining.

    You will learn how to combine gouache with watercolour effectively.

    You will leave the day with your completed exercises as well as a landscape painting, using gouache and watercolours.

    Caroline has included comprehensive handouts for you to also take away with you, so that you will be reminded of the step-by-step process that you have learned. Your handouts will include clear instructions.

    You’re welcome to take part in optional gentle mindfulness exercises.

    There will be a complimentary self-service coffee / tea / water station in the room at all times.

    Free parking is available.

    Caroline and Emma are on hand all day for support.

    Materials are included in the course cost, except for extra sheets of paper.

    You will be provided with 2 sheets of paper. If you require more sheets, you can buy them from us for £2 each.

    Professional-quality art materials provided: Winsor and Newton gouache, Michael Harding watercolour and QOR watercolour, 300gsm 100% cotton paper, brushes.

    A £15 voucher is also included in the cost; you may use this in the restaurant, deli, garden centre, or gift shop.

  • Your tutor will be Caroline Tatham, a qualified lecturer who has a lifetime of experience teaching creativity.

    Your teaching assistant and mindfulness guide will be Emma Tatham who will offer lots of encouragement and practical support, as well as offering optional mindfulness exercises.

  • Not at all. We specialise in supporting and encouraging those with no previous experience. You just need a ‘can do’ attitude!

  • Materials are included in the course cost, including top-quality paints and highest quality watercolour paper.

    Provided materials: Winsor and Newton gouache, Michael Harding watercolour and QOR watercolour, 300gsm 100% cotton paper, brushes.

    You’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

  • Do not worry! We are all creative and Caroline specialises in connecting people to their inner creative voice.

    You just need to be willing to give it a go. Absolute beginners are most welcome.

  • You will gain a greater understanding of the tried and tested techniques of watercolour painting, including combinations with gouache.

    You will also have an understanding of Caroline's creative process and how this can inspire your own creative artwork.

    You will have practical technique examples as well as a gouache and a misty, layered watercolour landscape painting, to take home.

    You will also have an insight into mindfulness techniques and exercises, which you can continue to practice after the course is over.

  • Yes! You are very welcome to join our free online community ‘Creative Space’ where we offer encouragement and feedback to posting members.

    In this free group, there is a bank of free art resources, such as weekly botanical art prompt sheets, designed to inspire your artwork (#CreativeSpaceNatureSpark). As well as reference photos, reference images, sketches and equipment lists, from our Fun-Sized Art School FREE art initiative.

    There is also the chance to win prizes in the group challenges.

  • This course is suitable for all levels of art experience, whether you are new to watercolour and gouache painting or are experienced and just want to hone your skills.

  • Saturday 28th November 2026.

  • The course cost is £95.

    The early bird price is £90, until 15th July 2026.

    Cost includes art materials and a £15 voucher which you can spend on lunch, if you wish.

  • Doors open at 10am where a complimentary self-service coffee / tea / water station will be available.

    There will be a 45 minute break at around 1pm for lunch.

    The course finishes at 4pm.
