About This Workshop
This workshop will help you to address the challenging question of “where do I start?” It will suggest methods to organise your creative ideas and add an extra dimension to your sketchbook or journal. Caroline will discuss gathering reference materials as a way to bypass creative block.
Visual research is a great way to get motivated and get started, and this workshop will encourage you to fill up your sketchbook or journal with heartfelt ideas. The journey is as important as the destination on your creative path.
You will be working towards a final gratitude platter artwork and learning useful techniques along the way, such as transferring an image onto watercolour paper, the value of a limited colour palette, and combining poetry with art.
You will be using inspirational moodboards, provided in the handouts, to inspire your creative idea, and you may choose to create your own collection of inspiration that is personal to you. Either way, we will be looking to other creative fields to magpie mark-making and decorative ideas that you can bring to your own creative practice.
If you don’t know how to get going or are feeling frozen, this cousre can help. You will create a useful resource that you can reach into time and time again, to help to develop your own creative voice, inspired by what you find in the world around you.
Caroline’s chosen to paint her house, and you can follow along, include your own house or anything that you feel grateful for. You will learn to think like a designer and artist, and to avoid waiting for inspiration to hit.

Quality paints are expensive but also have more pigmentation. This will enhance the techniques in this workshop making them more evident.
Quality paper will also produce a better result. 100% cotton paper will give the best results.
It is, of course, fine to start with cheaper materials and invest in more expensive ones as your experience and interest in this wonderful medium grows.
Just be kind to yourself if some of your results are a little more subtle with cheaper materials.
