About This Course

TEXT FROM SPRING PAGE:

This course includes 3 stand-alone projects, all inspired by photography from the spring garden. Our primroses reference photo was taken by Emma in our gardens here at Gossington Hall. Nothing says spring quite like these cheerful little flowers. The bluetit reference image was taken by Don Coombez on Unsplash, a great source of copyright free mages. Emma also took the lovely photograph of the Narcissus ‘Jetfire’, our third spring-inspired artwork.

Caroline’s presentation videos will take you through each of the painting projects, and all come with helpful handouts including information such as equipment lists, reference images, an example of the completed artwork and useful drawings ready to use as a basis for your own painting.

You will discover how to harness some fundamental watercolour techniques, such as: using salt. light to dark planning, glazing, wet-on-wet, simplification, lifting, transferring a sketch to watercolour paper, colour matching and working with a limited colour palette.

There are 5 weeks available for you to download the course content and keep it forever.

2 mllards (reflection):

In This Project, Discover How...

  • Golden’s ‘open thinner’ allows high flow acrylics to behave like watercolours, making it perfect for watercolour artists who don’t like using acrylics.

  • To create a watery effect with Winsor and Newton’s lifting preparation.

  • Golden’s ‘open thinner’ slows down drying time, leaving the paint workable for longer.

  • To use primary colours to create a range of browns that feel natural and sit well with the artwork’s green-coloured water.

FAQs

  • This course includes three instructional videos that .take you through each spring themed watercolour project.

The projects are individual but form a cohesive spring themed collection.

Each will include examples of useful fundamental watercolour techniques.

Caroline has included helpful handouts with an equipment list for each project, and .sketches ready for you to get started.

  • Your tutor will be Caroline Tatham, a qualified lecturer who has a lifetime of experience teaching creativity.

  • Not at all. We specialise in supporting and encouraging those with no previous experience.

You just need a ‘can-do’ attitude and a desire to learn about watercolour painting!

  • There is a full equipment list for each project on our web page and also in the handouts.

Feel free to use your own colour combinations if you prefer, it’s all about play and exploration.

Quality paints are expensive but also have more pigmentation. This will enhance the techniques in this workshop making them more evident.

Quality paper will also produce a better result. 100% cotton paper will give the best results.

It is, of course, fine to start with cheaper materials and invest in more expensive ones as your experience and interest in this wonderful medium grows.

Just be kind to yourself if some of your results are a little more subtle with cheaper materials.

  • Do not worry! We are all creative and Caroline specialises in connecting people to their inner creative voice.

You just need to be willing to give it a go. Absolute beginners are most welcome.

  • You will gain a greater understanding of the tried and tested techniques of watercolour painting.

You will be confident in sourcing copyright free images and transferring them onto watercolour painting ready to paint.

You will also create three separate spring themed artworks.
