LEVEL 2 ONLINE COURSE
Three Artworks From The Wetlands Garden
Watercolours & Acrylics From Garden Photography
£15 £0
Until 30th November 2026.
About This Course
This course includes 3 stand-alone projects, all inspired by photography from the wetlands garden. Our lovely reference photos were taken by Emma in our gardens here at Gossington Hall, or sourced from a copyright-free website.
Caroline’s presentation videos will take you through each of the painting projects, and all come with helpful handouts including information such as equipment lists, reference images, an example of the completed artwork and useful drawings ready to use as a basis for your own painting.
You will discover how to harness some fundamental watercolour techniques, such as: light to dark planning, glazing, wet-on-wet, simplification, lifting, transferring a sketch to watercolour paper, colour matching, combining acrylic and watercolour painting, masking fluid, capturing the effect of light on water and the value of working with a limited colour palette.
Caroline will also demonstrate how the use of acrylic open thinner can be used to slow down the drying process, which can make your acrylic paints behave more like watercolours. She will show you how lifting medium can be used for unique effects and how a range of neutral brown shades can be mixed from primaries, as a useful exercise as you create your artworks.
Until 30th November 2026, you can download the course content and keep it forever.

Quality paints are expensive but also have more pigmentation. This will enhance the techniques in this workshop making them more evident.
Quality paper will also produce a better result. 100% cotton paper will give the best results.
It is, of course, fine to start with cheaper materials and invest in more expensive ones as your experience and interest in this wonderful medium grows.
Just be kind to yourself if some of your results are a little more subtle with cheaper materials.
